What is Type1Parents.org?
Type1Parents is a message board community started for Parents with children with Diabetes started in March 2007, where they can not only have a resource for Diabetes but they can mingle with other parents about non Diabetic issues.

What is T1P?
T1P is short for Type1Parents and is used frequently throughout the message board.

The name sounds wrong Am I at the right place?
Yes, it does seem confusing that this site would be for Type 1 Diabetics who are parents, it is a website for but certainly not limited to Parents w/Type 1 children. Due to the quick nature the board came into existence, possible names were discussed but nothing better was suggested at the time.

Who owns T1P?
The T1P domain name and website are owned and operated by Chris & Kellie DelVecchio (usernames Chris & Kellie). They are the parents of 2 children with type1 Diabetes. However, the community is run by everyone. The members get what they put in (or actually get support and information now and hope to return the favor to someone new in the future).

Why Another Diabetes Website?
True, there are several fine website communities for Parents of Diabetic kids but none seem to emphasize or encourage non D discussion. When their child was diagnosed, many seem to feel like they lost a piece of themselves. By allowing off topic discussions and non D features like an arcade, T1P provides a place where a parent can be themselves, without being known as the parent of the kid with that disease. Sometimes something as simple as that can go a long way.  Also by having specific categories for topics relating to diabetes or not, parents can read or avoid particular topics as they choose.

I read T1P would only be around for a year?
There are several people who originally dismissed our concept as a flash in the pan. The comment "at least for another year" is addressed to point out that both the site and domain have been paid for for a full year and will not being going away anytime soon and is not to say the website will close after that year.  T1P will continue to operate as long as its members continue to enjoy it.

Why does one need to register to see anything?
Because of the sensitive information displayed on this site, we decided to require members to register before they can view any of the site. We felt it was the safest way to patrol who was looking at that information. If you feel the website is not what you expected, you do have the option to remove oneself from the registration. However, any deletion activations will be followed up with an email from one of the administration to find out why. If there is something wrong with the site, we would like to know so we can address the issue.

Does this cost anything?
No, the T1P Community does not cost a member anything to be a member of the community.

What is the T1P newsletter?
The T1P newsletter is a monthly update emailed to each member. The newsletter named The Bolus- Your Monthly Dose of T1P. It was emailed on the second of each month. The Bolus shared the happenings from the past month and is also a monthly reminder to those not active in the community. Currently, The Bolus is on hiatus but we are working on getting it started again.

I really like this site. Can I join the team?
We are always looking for members to contribute to the site. There are many types of duties we could use help with.

When the community grows, we will be looking for individual Board Moderators. Moderators help keep the discussions on topic. They also are the first line of defense in case trouble arises. And finally their most frequent job would be to start and encourage discussions with their areas.

We would also be interested in someone who could compile the monthly newsletter. Someone who could summarize what went on for that month and email it to the membership.

We are also looking for people with ideas to make this site better- like what guest we could have for a next group chat.

Is there anything else I could do?
Actually, we could use promotion help too. You could contact people in social networks like myspace/facebook(We have accounts on both sites and just recently started a Facebook fanpage) and let them know about T1P. If you have a website or myspace you could also post one of our banner links on your page. (instructions can be found here!) For outside promotion help you could always contact fellow parents you meet at various Diabetes functions or at the Drs Office. We also have 2 different Flyers you could print out and see if your endo's office would be willing to display it. Flyers can be found in our DOWNLOADS section.

You could also help ensure the site's future by purchasing products from our Official Store. The products listed here are only designed by T1P and are handled by a third party- Cafepress. The small % revenue generated for each sale will be used for a variety things in this order-
-support of the actual store. (monthly fee req to keep open)-pay for server space and potential hosting upgrades (yearly)-pay for future domain registrations (yearly)-pay for potential software upgrades (chat room) -pay for promotional items for member giveaways
-donation to Diabetes related charity (upgraded to priority for calendar sales)

At this time, T1P refuses to accept direct donations. We would rather you get something for your money.

What's the story with this calendar?
The T1P calendar is a calendar featuring the T1 children and special T1 young adult friends. The focus is to show our kids leading normal lives and just a constant reminder that our kids are normal. The organization of the calendar begins Summer and should be available in early September. All kids will be equally featured on front page and part of 1 month. When available, the calendars are purchased in the T1P and are fully handled by third party and can be done on your own at your convenience. Parents submitting children's pics will be asked to sign release but are not required to purchase calendar. Profits from sale help support the site.
