  • I've heard about others talking about it and wondered how I would respond.  A lady here was just diagnosed with T2 diabetes at the whopping bs of 127.   She actually was very good about it.  Its the other comments that are annoying.  Like, well ask Julie what kind of diet Joe is on, hey maybe with your nutrition class you can Julie some tips for Joe.  Ask Julie what Joe has to do to keep his bs down.  Wow, you are 132 after you ate??!!!!!  Holy smokes, ask Julie how Joe got that number down.

Ignore Ignore.  They mean well, let it go.  be supportive.  They don't understand.  (ugh)

  • OMG!  Wow, 127 and 132 are beautiful numbers for our kids!   I know it's hard to keep your mouth shut on this.  Good luck with that! ;)

  • There's a lady I work with at the food bank who was dx'd with "pre-diabetes" with numbers like those.  She asked me a lot of questions, and I very nicely told her that I was sorry to tell her that I didn't know much about the bad kind of diabetes, since we don't have to follow diets at our house. >:D We just give insulin.

  • I did.  I told her that I thought it was much worse to have to follow a diet.  We have to do a lot more pokes, of course, but we just eat normally, not all the sugar-free, modified gross stuff.

  • I just mentally tell myself.....at least they are asking questions. At least they are not assuming, at least they are trying to be proactive and at least they know you have some sort of knowledge about bg numbers.  I try and tell myself that I was not equipped with this knowledge before Sam was dx and I too also though it was all the same.  Having said that....OMG ANGELA, YOU ROCK!!!!

  • But won't it be nice to have someone who understands about having diabetus...I mean the only difference is in the severity and the age at onset...right?   ;)

    Sorry couldn't resist.

Right.  We have the bad kind.  She hopes hers doesn't become that bad.

  • Yup.  Take a deep breath and let it go...if you can.

For the most part I do, but it all depends on the ignorance level of the comment and how annoyed I am at the time.

  • Angela!   <roflmao> <roflmao>  What the heck did she say?

Julie, I hope you find the patience you need for this one.  And I hope she quickly understands the difference between what she has and what Joe has.
