That's a good idea, the closest camp is a little over an hour away....but I happen to know the medical director!  <roflmao> Of course I didn't think of it.

  • Hope you are able to find something. It's hard to listen and swallow. I called a few pre K private schools when my son was 4 and they all denied him. I was lucky he was selected on the lottery from a public school. Before that, he was w/ a babysitter that didn't do anything D related. I worked very closed to her and I managed to go there for shots, snacks, lunch. Not easy, but we survived.

  • I know I am posting a little late, but I first wanted to empathize with you. Our daughter was diagnosed at 18 months and we could never find a daycare center that seemed willing or competent enough to care for our child. We never felt comfortable putting in a daycare where they seemed reluctant about caring for her. It is so difficult to find childcare for diabetic toddlers!!!!

On the other hand: All day cares, schools, rec centers, etc are required by law to to comply to ADA standards for caring for all kids with T1D. It has nothing to do with their insurance or not, it is federally mandated that they cannot refuse your child based on his/diabetes. I encourage you to check out the ADA website if you haven't already.

  • I thought that the only businesses that received state funding were required to adhear to those rules since these are privately owned.

Either was Emily is staying with a friend of mine during the day and doing Pre-K in homeschool this year.  She really doesn't like it and wants to go back to school, but for this year it looks like this will be the solution.
