Carb Factor List

  • We use carb factors at our house. If you're not familiar with carb factors it's where you figure out how many carbs are in an ounce or gram of food. You then weigh the food you'll be eating or drinking and multiply it by the carb factor. We've been using carb factors since the beginning, so over 3 1/2 years now. I have notebooks just filled with different carb factors. When Cenzo was dx i sent Edy a list of carb factors. But i decide to retype them out again. I actually have a lot more carb factors than this list, but these are the ones that are used most frequently in our house.  Thought i'd share our list if anyone wants to try carb factors, or just needs a list to look off of. Remember these are averages. They work with Ashleigh, but you may have to experiment to see if your child needs a higher or lower carb factor for certain foods :).  these factors are also based on weight in grams.

  • Great list, Chris.  Thanks for sharing.  <t-up>

I have a great list for fruits that shows a carb factor for edible portion and whole fruit.  I'll try to remember to post that later today.  I use the whole fruit for sending bananas for lunch, and other things that it's less messy to take without cutting/peeling.

  • i forgot to put that the .14 for the apple is without the core. If I send a whole apple we do either .11 or .12 (depending on my mood) LOL! the main fruits we eat here are apples, bananas, grapes, strawberries and watermelon. so that's what i included on my list. The .2 is for a peeled banana.
