Yucky bug--when do you call the doctor?

  • I know I've been at this awhile, but Kristen has had what I consider relatively mild yucky bugs in the last couple of years.  Nothing I couldn't handle.

She is SICK.  Slight fever, both ends, shakes.  She says she doesn't ache.  Yes she got her flu shot.  And her BFF was sick a week ago.

Blood sugars in the mid 200s.  No ketones.  She has been getting sick since 5:45am.  It is now 9am.

When do I need to call the doctor? She isn't dehydrated (yet), just absolutely miserable.

And it is all made worse by the stupid splint on her leg and her needing to use crutches.  And she will need a site change today.

Not looking forward to this one going through the house...

  • Call when your instinct is to call...I don't think there is ever a wrong time.

Not sure if you've seen this chart I posted in another thread... It's my sick day go to

  • Sorry to hear she's not doing well. If in doubt on any front, call.  That's what they are there for.

  • I went ahead and called the Endo on call.  Still waiting on a call back...

She finally fell asleep and is out of the bathroom.   <fx'd> she is already starting to turn the corner.  I don't think I've seen her that sick in a REALLY long time, maybe ever.

  • Sounds more like the norovirus and less like the flu... It's been going around pretty bad! I've heard people are MISERABLE with it!

  • She is feeling better.  Thank Goodness!  She was eating before bed last night.  I didn't expect that from the way she was earlier in the morning.

I called and they didn't get back to me for 3 hours and by that time she had stopped throwing up.

I did need to give her some Zofran later and that really helped the second bout of nausea she had.

I'm keeping her home today (obviously) and tomorrow.  I think with the crutches she needs more rest time because they really tire her out.
