  • That is interesting.  Does it sound like they are trying to incorporate testing into well-child screenings?

  • Yeah, though interesting, painfully short on details.  It does sound like that to me.  An autoantibody screening to at least be able to know who is at risk and watch more closely, and possibly be able to intervene in the future.

  • Very interesting but I'm with you on the painful lack of details. It does sound like the screening they have in mind almost guarantees you will eventually have type 1. But when Elena was dx my endo told me not to screen my youngest because there was no guarantee that a positive screening meant onset. Sounds like different tests here.

I did read some research proposals early on when Elena was dx and it seemed that the most promise we had for a cure was for people with some beta cells functioning still. A couple of them pointed to cases of people honeymooning whose honeymoon had been extended. I remember thinking, why do some people honeymoon and others don't? Now I think everyone honeymoons but symptoms might be so mild that they aren't diagnosed until the honeymoon is almost over.

It does feel like there are more cases every day! Let's hope we can figure this out soon!

Yeah, I agree.  G was dx in September, but looking back - there were definite major signs in May.  Not only that, but knowing what I know now, I can remember issues that were probably due to a failing pancreas as far back as 6-8 years prior to dx!

  • Seth was dx in August, but had symptoms as early as May.  Pretty sure his honeymoon was over by the time he was dx.
