Help! PDM died, need to figure out amt of Lantus

  • PDM is dead. New one doesn't come until Tuesday. We do about 13 units of basal per day via the Pod. Anyone have a reference for translating this back into units of Lantus?

Gah. This sucks. Something always blows up the week or two before an endo appt.

My husband has Lantus pens here. I'm half tempted to use one of those to avoid a run to Walgreens tonight, even though I know I probably shouldn't.

  • I think the starting point is the amount of basal is equal to Lantus. Can you call the on call endo? I personally wouldn't hesitate to use the pen on hand and get it filled tomorrow. But I know some people would have big issues with that.

  • I agree that I think the starting point is 1:1, but calling the Endo is the best bet at this point.

  • When I was prepping for Disney, CDE said if we run into it do a 1:1

And I wouldn't worry about using what's on hand...the rule is as long as a valid rx is in place, not necessarily what's on the label.

Also, for next time...you don't necessiarily need to pull the pod...it should still deliver basals until the pod dies

What a cruddy time for this to happen.  <hug>
