We received the Animas pumps for the boys last week, but we can't start using them until we take the training at our endo's office (which isn't offered until November). Happily anticipating being on pump therapy by Thanksgiving, and between BCBS and Medicaid the cost was covered 100%.

Since purchasing the two pumps easily filled up our deductible (making medical costs for the rest of the year an 80/20 split), we decided to move ahead on Dexcoms since it was the cheapest we would ever get them.

What we didn't realize is that the pumps also fulfilled our out-of-pocket maximum, which means two Dexcoms and next three months  of sensors will be COMPLETLY COVERED at no charge to us.

Jonah's ships this week (Isaiah's paperwork was submitted a little later so his will probably come next week). I am FLOORED; just thanking God and a little bewildered at this happy whirlwind!

Great news.  Just a reminder to order a new box of sensors each month for each boy even though you will probably get more than 7 days out of each one.  That way you may be able to pace yourself a little at the beginning of the year when your deductible starts over.

For sure. I'm planning to stock up. :)

I've had a couple people tell me that whatever we pay toward the deductible in the fourth quarter carries over to the new year. I'm doubtful, but crossing my fingers.

How would you pay towards the deductible when everything is free since you hit out of pocket?

Sorry, I should have said what has already BEEN paid in the fourth quarter. That's why I waited until October 1 to submit the pump applications. ;)

Ah- cool!  I've heard some plans do that.  We've never had one that does.

Wonderful news!

When I worked in the insurance industry years ago, most of our plans had that benefit.  If you met your deductible or out of pocket in the last quarter, it carried over for the next year.  It was called carry over credit.  I don't think many plans offer that benefit anymore.

That's kinda crazy.  I've never heard of that.  It wouldn't make a difference for us.  We meet the deductible in the 1st quarter and our OOP is so high we never meet it!

Same for us!  I think it's lower this year, but still too high for us to meet it.
