Drinks...

  • Ok, there was a thread on a FB page I am on about Crystal light causing BG spikes....so I am coming to the experts  ;D

Crystal light is really all that Kaelyn drinks besides for milk- so I am willing to experiment cutting it out to see if it does have an effect.

Here's my conundrum though- Kaelyn really doesn't like plain water, and she hates carbonation. That drastically cuts what I can give her that is carb free.

Any ideas about this theory that CL does cause spikes or what I can try instead?

  • We don't use Crystal Light much, but I've heard it causes a false spike. Meter thinks it's a spike but it really isn't.  No experience,  just what I've read in a few group discussions.  My boys really like the Mio water squirter things. We use the store brand. It doesn't have maltodextrin, which is the part that causes the spike.

  • Have you tried True Lemon?  It also comes in lime and orange flavors.

  • I haven't noticed any spikes and Kayleigh especially drinks a lot of it. We use the drops that we just mix into the glass mostly. We also use the Dasani and Mio drops. Whatever is cheapest at the time.

  • We do a lot of crystal light as well...and don't notice a problem.  Cole also goes through a lot of G2, Bret's Snapple, & Fuze.
