Cereal and pizza

  • These seem to be problem foods in most houses, right?  Jason hasn't eaten cereal in forever, but decided he wanted it for breakfast this morning.  He pre-bolused about 30 minutes, had a little spike (up to about 200 or so), then headed back down.  He followed it with pizza for lunch and is now sitting at 81.  He said it may be the perfect combo! LOL

  • For us cereal HUGELY depends on type.  Plain cherrios (my weird kid's favorite) is fine.  Minimum spike and down nicely.  Sugary cereal is crazy- crazy in that she doesn't need full insulin.  If I dose her "correctly" (by weight of cereal) she drops like a rock and ends up in the basement.  Makes.no.sense.

Pizza it depends.  Some pizza she needs extended.  Other than costco pizza if it's lunch she's fine with a straight bolus.  Costco needs a slight extension.  Other pizza varies greatly - hugely depends on how much she eats.

  • We have different results every dang time. We seem to have better results with sugary cereal. Cheerios can be a nightmare here. Surprisingly oatmeal I can handle about 60% of the time with just a minimal spike. lol
