The problem I have with the LCHF diet is that it goes against my mantras of "kid first" and "everything in moderation."It drives me nuts when people turn to this diet in order to decrease insulin. Because insulin is evil. Not like it's naturally produced in the body or anything
And to be clear- if it's an adult who cares to do this- whatever. Adults do all sorts of crazy diets. I don't care. It's NOT cool to subject a child to this Not cool medically. Not cool nutritionally. Not cool emotionally.
And because...Nutbuckets. You cannot argue with crazy.
Run away. Far far away. They're evangelists of the worst type Talk to your endo first. I have yet to hear of a pedi endo who would endorse LCHF for t1 kids. And I'm not a talk to your endo first kind of person. This is a VERY limiting lifestyle- I don't care what they say.Type 1 kids have a sky high incidence of eating disorders and general emotional and psychological issues around food. Adding something as restrictive as LCHF to that is a BAD idea. There is not significant data to show that the uber-control they gain is worth the toll.Add to that- there are studies showing lchf increases cortisol (stress hormone) which in turn can increase the risk of heart disease and kidney disease- things our kid are already at risk for.
