  • Wonderful!     I really wish we could make it but Abby signed up to take the ACT.  I have learned so much from his Facebook page, I would have loved to hear him speak.

  • Good for you! I hope you love it!

I seriously considered going, but would have preferred for my husband to come, too (I'm not confident about Chicago traffic on my own!), which would have caused childcare issues. Finally decided to make do with the book, which I started a couple weeks ago and haven't gotten back to!

Hope you get great information and tons of encouragement.  <t-up> Would love to hear what you think afterwards!

  • I saw him.  He's great.  But he does give one piece of advice that is absolutely wrong.  I mean innacurate and wrong.

The dexcom does not need to be calibrated only while in range and flat.  Dexcom is most accurate when calibrated 2-4 times daily with a wide range of BGs and it does not matter if the arrows are moving.

If you only calibrate at an even in range number your dex will be less accurate at extrdme highs or lows.

It does do much better if calibrated when flat, but you're right on the range- I've actually had that discussion with him, pointing out that if I want it to be correct at higher numbers we need to calibrate when high too.  In most of his lectures now he says something along the lines of in the rage you're usually in.  For him that's in range  ;)   for us... not always  :P   but while it CAN deal with calibrations with bg on the move it is MUCH more accurate when calibrated on a steady BG    :)

  • Except for straight up or straight down arrows, we calibrate whenever...between 100 and 300 is my preferred range...accuracy we've been just fine in the many many years we've been using dex

  • The workshop was great.  Dr. Ponder is great.  So down to earth and likable.  Worth the 4+ hour drive (one way) to attend.  So much information presented very well.  He said it was the first time he had given the workshop to people who had been able to read the book first.  We had not read it yet, but we didn't feel like we were missing out on anything because of that.  It probably would have helped, but we still learned plenty.

It seemed to spark interest in Grant to give some of his techniques a try.  He won't do all of it, or do it all the time, but if he even does some of it some of the time it will help.  :)

Cassie - I was thrilled that he has a slide in his presentation of you!  He has a pick of the dex screen that you probably posted or sent to him that says KDA not DKA and he explained to the group what they meant - which got a laugh.  I saw that on the screen and I told Grant - that's Seth!!

All in all, a great workshop.  I'm eager to dive into the nitty-gritty of the book now to see what we can accomplish.

  • I have the book and can't WAIT to read it, but I think I am going to wait. I am overwhelmed with everything I have going on already, don't think I can add one more thing.
