Newly diagnosed daughter

  • Hi everyone-

My 15 month old daughter Noor was diagnosed with type I two months ago. She is now on the dexcom cgm and animas pump and we are struggling to get used to this new life. Her glucose is still all over the place and we have frequent lows (at least twice a week) and highs (above 350 daily). I guess it just takes this long to get a proper insulin regimen.  I also have a 4 year old without diabetes.

Just wanted to introduce us. Looking forward to getting some wisdom from all of you experienced parents out there.

    Hina

  • Sorry that you have reason to join this group, but you've found the best place for support and information! Ask anything!

It sounds like you're way ahead of where we were two months after diagnosis.  <t-up>

  • hugs!  Two lows a week is great- that's not frequent at all.  And you'll get better at getting the highs dialed in with dex.

We have another mama with a t1 Noor here too  :)  Her Noor is almost 12 though, but I'll message her to pop in and say hi when she gets a chance.

Welcome and ask anything.  This is the best place.

  •  <hug> <hug>  Sorry to hear about your little ones dx.  It sounds like you're doing great though. There is no set formula when dealing with diabetes, unfortunately. But you will get better quickly, especially with the dexcom on your team.

My girls were dx'd at 11 (now 14) and 4 (now 7.)  One of my best friend's son was also dx'd at 15 months. (He's now 4.)  It's hard with little ones who can't communicate as well.   She likes a FB group just for little ones called diapers and diabetes. https://www.facebook.com/groups/191223607577960/

  • Welcome! I'm not here often, but I can relate to the young diagnosis. My boys were diagnosed at 18 months and 26 months. You're well ahead of the game to be already pumping and have a Dexcom. If there's anything I can ever answer, feel free to PM me, as I'll be sure to pop back to the site.

  • Sorry about the diagnosis but you are certainly in the right place! Ask away and remember the first year is the most challenging.
