Pre-teen hormones and highs

  • Hello,
    Back after a long time.
We're dealing with week long diurnal highs, almost precisely 12 hours apart, late afternoon, around 4 pm, and early morning, around 4 am. Fasting bg is around 200, even if she goes to bed with a normal reading.

The rest of the day the readings are fine.
Need advice. Is this hormonal and, therefore, common? What should we do?
    She's 12 and a half now.

  • Is she pumping or MDI?  Sounds like she needs more basal.  If on basal insulin then timing or dose might need adjusting.  If pumping then pump settings should be addressed.

    Good to hear from you!

She's been pumping for 2 and a half years now, and able to handle the pump herself.

Pump settings are okay, so it seems. Spoke to the Medtronic people this morning. They think the basal might need to be inceeased.

  • Yeah, if she wakes high always then sometime overnight her basal needs to be higher.  Do you have a CGM?
