Title: Celiac test results: HELP
Post by: KaelynsMom on December 12, 2015, 11:40:30 AM
OK, so I have been stalking our test results online and they are in this morning. I won't be talking to the Endo until Monday- am hoping someone here has some insight?

In September they tested and this was the result:

Transglutaminase IgA Ab   September 21, 2015 2:12pm   <2 U/mL
Negative 0 - 3

Weak Positive 4 - 10

Positive >10

Tissue Transglutaminase IgG Ab   September 21, 2015 2:12pm   11 U/mL   High

Negative 0 - 5

Weak Positive 6 - 9

Positive >9

These are the results from the latest testing:

Dec 07, 2015   Tissue Transglutaminase IgG Ab   7 U/mL
Negative 0 - 5
Weak Positive 6 - 9
Positive >9

Dec 07, 2015   Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Ab   <2 U/mL
Negative 0 - 3
Weak Positive 4 - 10
Positive >10

Off to Google I go but am hoping someone has some real world insight

I don't have any insight other than our pre gluten free diet those numbers were >100 for Giovanni and then post gluten free they are all down below the lowest.

I can look for our exact results if you like.

From what my brain can decipher from Dr. Google the IgA test is the main test for Celiac, and Kaelyns was negative. The IgG is a secondary test and it's a weak positive which doesn't necessarily mean anything.

When we got the results in September the Endo said it was a "weak positive". My gut is telling me that she doesn't have it, but I think the Endo will refer us to GI for consult anyway.

Maybe not. The gastro won't do anything extra. Maybe they'll just keep an eye on it.

Vivian's was high.  So high that the Endo and the GI both said that the #'s alone were indicative of celiac but that they would do the Endoscopy anyway to make the DX 100%

Her #'s are in the negative range now.

I had a blood panel done about a year ago, mine came back with a weak slight + that I went ahead with.  I didn't have the scope done on myself.

If your insurance is good and will pay for the endoscopy I would go ahead and do it to rule it in/our definitively.  Otherwise I'd probably go with the wait and see approach to medicine that my mom taught me.  LOL

Heard from Endo. Because her number is improved from last time and it is a very weak positive and she has no symptoms they want to wait and see. We will do follow up blood test in April when we go back. If she starts showing any symptoms they will send us for GI consult. I think I am ok with this approach for now.

For future reference, I work in a lab and have an entire database of tests and their meanings at my fingertips  ;)
